Help! My GPU has turned into a Basic Display Adapter

Hey everyone! I'm struggling with a frustrating issue on my Lenovo laptop (model 16IRX9H). A few days ago, I noticed that my RTX 4080 laptop GPU seemed to be disabled since my games are only running at 10 fps on the CPU. When I checked Device Manager, I saw that my GPU is showing up as a "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter." After doing some research, I learned this indicates that my drivers might be uninstalled or corrupted and replaced by the basic Microsoft drivers.

I've tried several things to get the proper drivers installed:
- I opened the NVIDIA GeForce Experience app, but it won't even let me access the driver page.
- I used DDU to uninstall the drivers, hoping to reinstall them.
- I attempted to download the correct drivers from both the NVIDIA and Lenovo websites, but when I run the installer, it tells me the driver is not compatible with my device, even though I downloaded the right one for my hardware.

I'm feeling really lost here—what should I do next?

I wish I could offer more help, but I'm not super tech-savvy. Maybe try posting in other tech forums—that might get you more visibility. Good luck!

Have you checked your BIOS settings? Lenovo laptops have a GPU selector that lets you choose between dedicated, hybrid, and integrated graphics. Make sure it’s set to allow the dedicated GPU. After that, try reinstalling the driver again! Also, if you have the Lenovo Advantage software, you might be able to toggle this with a function key (usually Fn + F2). Hope that helps!

Exactly! If you've got that setting disabled, it will definitely create issues during installation.

Wow, you were spot on! I was actually in silent mode, which disabled the GPU. Your comment got me thinking, and I really appreciate it!

You can try using this driver installer: https://www.glenn.delahoy.com/snappy-driver-installer-origin/. It might help find the right drivers for your setup.
