Hey everyone! I've been facing some serious issues with my NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060. It started overheating and using way more power than it should, and I'm at a loss for what's going on. I previously managed to stabilize it by turning off Turbo Boost, which kept the power usage low and performance high. But out of nowhere, things took a turn for the worse.
I tried setting my processor power to 95% based on advice I found online, and since then, everything's gone downhill. My GPU power usage has skyrocketed from around 8-10% to a staggering 18-20%. Even after switching the processor power back to 100%, it didn't help. The usage is now jumping all over the place from 10% to 100%, which it never did before.
In terms of performance, my frame rates have tanked from a steady 130-140 FPS down to as low as 50 FPS, with the maximum now struggling to hit 120 FPS. I also set the game's memory allocation to 2GB minimum and 4GB maximum, but it now instantly uses all 2GB and refuses to allocate more, despite it being permitted to use up to 4GB.
I even reset the power settings to defaults and re-enabled Turbo Boost, but nothing has changed. I'm really hoping someone can help fix this overheating and the performance issues because it's making gaming next to impossible. My CPU is an 11th Gen Intel Core i5-11400H with 16GB of RAM. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

It sounds like your power settings might be all over the place! It’s definitely worth looking into them again. Maybe the GPU is trying to change performance based on the high temperatures? If anyone knows how to stabilize the power usage, that’d be super helpful. Good luck!
Have you checked which graphics driver you're on? Sometimes, older drivers can cause problems. I have an i7-10750H with the RTX 3060, and I’m still on driver 566.36 without issues. Also, how long have you had the laptop?
