My dad's iPad 7 has suddenly started boot looping. I noticed it happening sometime between last night and this morning. I'm guessing I might have to restore it, but I'm wondering if there's a way to fix it without having to go through that process. The device is running iPadOS 18.3.2.

The iPad 7 is known for having some thermal issues, which can lead to CPU failures. You could try putting it in recovery mode and connecting it to a computer to see if an update works. But if you get error 4013, that usually means there's a hardware problem. Just a heads up, this model is getting pretty old, so that might be part of the issue.

I totally noticed mine got really hot during tasks too, so that makes sense. I tried restoring and updating, but got that error—definitely seems like it's done for. It's a bummer that poor design can lead to such short lifespans.
