Help! My Laptop is Acting Weird After Watching Anime

I was watching anime on a sketchy site with my cousin and tried to use my laptop for better sound instead of my iPad. While I was in the bathroom, my cousin accidentally hit 'allow' on a pop-up that opened a new tab. Since then, I've been bombarded with pop-ups claiming my Google Chrome license has expired and that hackers are trying to take control of my PC. The fake pop-ups look like they're from McAfee and say my files are at risk. I can't even close the tabs—it just redirects me. I really need to turn in a paper tonight, so I'm freaking out! Can anyone help me out?

First things first, check your Chrome settings for notifications. Go to chrome://settings/content/notifications and look for anything you don’t recognize. Instead of removing it, just block it to stop those pesky ads from popping up again.

If you want a proactive solution next time, consider using uBlock Origin. It blocks ads and pop-ups before they even show up, providing a smoother browsing experience. You might need to use Firefox or another Chromium-based browser for the full version since Chrome only has uBlock Origin Lite.

To tackle this issue, the safest route is to reset Chrome to its default settings. You can find instructions on how to do that [here](https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/3296214?hl=en). After resetting, download and run the free version of Malwarebytes to check for any malware that might have snuck in.

I’d also recommend heading over to Malwarebytes.org to download their software. It’s a reliable tool for scanning and removing any malicious software that could be causing these pop-ups.
