Help! My laptop seems to have a remote control hacker

A little while ago, someone sent me an email link claiming my school email was about to be deactivated. Without thinking much, I clicked it, then deleted the suspicious file right after. Unfortunately, my computer seems to have been infected because not long after, I got a weird popup asking for my login password, which I ignored. I checked and confirmed that the file was deleted, then installed Avast, which removed a couple of files, so I thought I was in the clear. However, just this afternoon, I woke up from a nap and found my mouse moving on its own! It was trying to do a system update on my ASUS laptop running Windows 11. I panicked and closed my laptop, regaining control. Now I'm really worried that the malware is still on my computer and I need help!

Definitely talk to your school about this situation and change your passwords. After disconnecting from the internet, update your antivirus and run a full system scan. It's crucial to keep your antivirus software up to date to catch any threats. Just remember, there's often no 100% guarantee that a virus is gone, but a thorough scan lowers that risk significantly.

Got it! Full scan it is. Thanks for the clarity!

First off, it sounds like you might still have some malware on your system. I’d recommend disconnecting your laptop from the internet to prevent any further access until you can clear it up. Then, run a full antivirus scan with Avast again. If you're still flagged with issues, consider using a secondary scanner like Malwarebytes for a second opinion.

Would I need to completely uninstall Avast before using Malwarebytes?
