Help! My Laptop’s Bottom Case Won’t Stay Closed

I bought my laptop three years ago, and about a year and a half in, I noticed the bottom case was starting to open a bit on one side. It got progressively worse until five months ago when the hinge finally broke, damaging some internal plastic parts. I had it repaired, and the technician said I had been opening it incorrectly, not from the center. They fixed the hinge and attempted to weld the cases together, but that only held for three weeks. I even tried welding it myself with a knife, but that only lasted two weeks. Right now, I've resorted to using a shoelace wrapped around that part and taping it down, but that's failing me too. I can't keep using it like this until it's fixed. Do I need to buy a whole new bottom assembly, or is there another way to fix this?

From the photos, it looks like the frame around the hinge is broken. If that part is indeed broken, it might be time to consider a whole new bottom case. Check online marketplaces to see if you can find a new shell for your specific model; sometimes they’re not too expensive. But be careful with the installation—make sure to follow the right procedure to avoid it breaking again!

Honestly, if it's not closing properly and the structure is compromised, replacing it might be your best bet. Definitely look for videos or guides on how to replace the casing yourself; sometimes it's easier than you think!

It sounds like you might just need a new bottom piece if the welding isn't holding up. If it's just the plastic, you can buy replacement parts online, either from the original manufacturer or aftermarket. Uploading pictures definitely helps, so I suggest you do that. Knowing the exact model will also make it easier to find the right parts!
