I recently converted my drive from MBR to GPT in preparation for Windows 11, but now my boot drive isn't showing up at all. I'm stuck in a boot loop that leads to 'preparing automatic repair'. I can access the BIOS, but I can't see my boot drive. What steps can I take to fix this?

No worries, you haven't completely messed it up! 😅 It sounds like the conversion might have broken your bootloader. Try booting from a Windows 11 USB and navigate to the repair options, then head to the command prompt. You can run the bootrec commands followed by `bcdboot C:Windows /s EFI /f UEFI`. Just make sure your BIOS is set to UEFI instead of legacy before you start that. This should hopefully get your boot drive back online!
If that's too complicated, your best bet is to take it to a PC repair shop. They can handle these kinds of issues much better than we can at home. It's frustrating, but sometimes it's just safer to let the pros take care of it.
I figured it was all a bit over my head. I saw some guides that made it look easy, so I thought I'd give it a go. But it looks like I definitely bit off more than I could chew.

Would an external hard drive work for this? It's what I have on hand, and I need to keep the files on it safe.
