Help! My New RX 9070 XT Keeps Freezing Up

Hey everyone, I recently upgraded my GPU from a GTX 1060 6GB to an RX 9070 XT 16GB, but now I'm facing constant freezing issues that make my computer nearly unusable. I really want to avoid having to buy a new motherboard since my current one worked fine with the GTX just two days ago.

Here are the symptoms I'm experiencing:
- Random freezes where all displays go unresponsive, and the computer becomes completely frozen with no error messages. The fans keep spinning but eventually slow down.
- The only way to recover is to hold down the power button.
- These freezes tend to occur under load, but I've also had them happen while idling.
- Before I did a clean install of Windows, I was dealing with frequent Green Screen of Death (GSOD) and Black Screen of Death (BSOD) issues, which improved somewhat after the clean install.

Here are my computer specs:
- Motherboard: From an Acer Nitro N50 640 (not entirely sure of the specs).
- Old GPU: Nvidia GTX 1060 6GB.
- New GPU: ASUS Prime Radeon RX 9070 XT OC 16GB.
- CPU: Intel i5-12400k
- Memory: 16GB DDR4 3200mhz.
- PSU: Upgraded to a TUF GAMING 850W GOLD.

I've tried a few fixes, such as using DDU to uninstall my Nvidia drivers and then installing AMD's drivers, but while that stopped the GSOD and BSOD crashes, the freezing issues persist. I even tried letting Windows install its own drivers, but it only helped for a minute before crashing again.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

I loved my old GTX 1060! But I feel your pain. Sometimes new hardware can create unforeseen compatibility issues. Hang in there!

This sounds like a hardware issue. I'd suggest testing your RAM first and checking the event viewer for any specific errors that could give a clue.

Have you checked if Resizable BAR and Above 4G Decode settings are enabled? Those can sometimes affect stability with newer GPUs.

I tested my RX 9070 XT in another setup, and it worked perfectly. Looks like I might need a new motherboard after all.

I don’t have a direct solution, but I recommend trying to install an older version of Windows 11. I had a similar issue with a new build, and switching back to an older version seemed to stabilize everything.

Have you tried reseating your hardware? Sometimes simply taking out the RAM and GPU and putting them back can solve contact issues, especially if there was any flexing when you installed the new GPU. I've fixed similar problems this way before!
