Help! My New SSD Isn’t Detected for Windows Installation

Hey everyone,

I'm building my first PC and I'm stuck trying to install Windows 11 on my Adata Legend 860 PCIe Gen4 x4 M.2 2280 SSD connected to an ASRock B850M Pro-A WiFi Motherboard. The BIOS sees the SSD under "Storage Configuration > NVMe Configuration," and I can see the brand and capacity. However, during the Windows installation process, I can't select the SSD as a storage option; I only see a USB drive and some boot options, and it keeps saying: "Error: No storage disks found." I've tried several steps, including: reinstalling the SSD, updating the BIOS (except for the beta version), and changing the SATA mode back and forth. I even attempted using the command prompt to clean and format the disk to GPT, but nothing seems to work. Any insights on how to get my SSD recognized during the Windows installation would be really appreciated!

It sounds like your SSD might not be initialized yet, which could be why the Windows installer can't find it. I once faced a similar issue and had to initialize my drive using a different OS. If you can connect to the internet from another PC, consider creating a Linux Ubuntu live USB. Boot from that and check if you can see and initialize the drive from there. Just search online for instructions on initializing drives in Linux—it's usually pretty straightforward!

I ran into this issue with one of my M.2 drives before. What worked for me was installing Windows on a different PC first with the SSD plugged in, and then moving it back to the original setup. It booted up just fine afterward! Unfortunately, I get that it can be tricky if the only other system you have is a laptop, though.
