I'm having a frustrating issue with my Nintendo 3DS where it keeps showing a 'write protection enabled' error. Before anyone suggests it, I've turned the switch on the SD card multiple times to make sure the write protection is off. I've also tried four different SD cards and even attempted to disable write protection through the command prompt on my computer. The DS sometimes recognizes the SD cards, lets me launch my games, and I can play briefly—usually about five minutes—before it throws the same error again. At times, it won't load the games at all and just pops up the error. I just bought this 3DS from a friend for $65 and can't afford to have the slot replaced. I couldn't find the pin, and when I tried using a toothpick to push down the sides, I accidentally broke a tiny piece of metal, but that didn't change anything. I'm really at a loss here!

You might want to check how firmly the SD card is seated in the slot. If it only works when pushed in a certain way, that could indicate a problem with the connector or the card slot itself. Sometimes a little bit of dust or debris can cause connection issues. Gently clean the slot with compressed air if you can, and see if that improves the situation.
It sounds like the SD card reader in your 3DS is having some issues. Based on your description, it might be that the reader is going bad and entering protection mode when it shouldn't. I'd suggest testing with a different system if possible, or just looking for a replacement for the reader if you can. You mentioned being unable to afford repairs, but keep an eye out for local repair options—sometimes they can be reasonable.
But what if the cards work fine in other devices? Seems like it has to do with the console itself rather than the SD cards.

Thanks for the tip! I’ll try cleaning it and see if that helps.
