Help! My PC Freezes and Reboots When Tabbing Out of Games

Hey everyone! I'm facing a frustrating issue with my PC where it completely freezes and reboots whenever I tab out of games like Valorant or even when I close them. I've already tried using DDU to clean up old drivers, installing new GPU drivers, and updating the BIOS, but the problem persists. Looking at the Event Log, I see a "Kernel-Power 41" error. Could this indicate a problem with my PSU? I'm running a 750W PSU with a 9070XT and a Ryzen 7 9700X. I'd really appreciate any advice, as this issue has only started happening randomly—everything was fine when I built the PC last December.

I had a similar issue, and it turned out to be a driver problem. Tabbing out would restart my PC too. I’d recommend rolling back to the last stable driver version, like 26.1.1. It's a bit of a mess with driver updates lately, and while it might not solve everything, it could rule out hardware problems.

It sounds like you might be dealing with a memory issue. I had a similar problem a few months back, and it turned out that the XMP profile for my RAM was unstable when switching loads. When I disabled the XMP in the BIOS, it completely fixed my alt-tab crashing. Definitely worth trying that to see if it helps!

Thanks for the tip! I tried that, but now I'm having a new problem where the PC won't boot properly. It turns on but I just get a black screen. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Glad to hear you tried it! Sometimes after changing BIOS settings, it can take a few tries to get back on track. You might want to reset the BIOS to default and then try booting again. So frustrating, I know!

What cooler are you using? Just curious, because I’ve noticed that sometimes thermal issues can cause similar issues when switching loads, especially with demanding games. Let me know!

I appreciate the response! I'm using a Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro 5. It's been fine since I built the PC, but who knows—maybe it has a role in this problem!
