Help! My PC Freezes While Playing Certain Games

I finished building my PC about a month ago, but I'm running into a frustrating issue: some games cause my entire system to freeze up! When this happens, none of my input registers, and the only way out is to hit the restart button. I've managed to solve a couple of issues in the past, like with Avatar: FoP by disabling Ubisoft's overlay, and with Immortals of Aveum by changing my maximum processor state to 99%. However, I'm now having trouble with Uncharted 4, which freezes on the main menu while it's compiling shaders. Here are my specs for reference:
- AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 4.2 GHz 8-Core Processor
- Gigabyte B650 AORUS ELITE AX ICE
- XPOWER Zenith 64 GB (2 x 32 GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 Memory
- ASRock Steel Legend Radeon RX 9070 XT 16 GB
- Vetroo 1000W White Power Supply 80 Plus Gold
Any ideas on how I can fix this?

It sounds like you might be dealing with RAM issues. Make sure you’re actually running your RAM at its full speed of 6000 MHz and consider running a burn-in test. Auto RAM profiles can be a bit unreliable; I suggest using memtestx86 to check for any underlying problems.

Thanks for the tip on memtest! I'll definitely give that a shot.

Let me know how it goes! Often, it’s the simple tweaks that make a big difference.

Have you tried updating your GPU drivers and doing a clean install? Also, it might help to revert any BIOS changes or overclocks you made back to default settings. If your RAM isn’t running as advertised, consider checking for BIOS updates and ensuring your RAM profiles are set properly. Just in case, make sure your CPU cooler is properly installed and that all PSU cables are correctly plugged in. If none of that works, a clean Windows install could also be worth considering—especially if you transferred files from an old setup.

I did a clean install of Windows 11! I made sure everything’s right with the PSU, and I checked the RAM placement too, but I'll look into the BIOS settings again.

Sounds like you’ve covered a lot, but those BIOS settings can sometimes be tricky. Just double-check everything there—you might find something off.

Most of these freezing issues tend to be linked to RAM or firmware. If you haven’t already, check if you have the latest firmware for your motherboard. The latest official F36 has improved memory compatibility, and there’s also a beta F37d that might enhance stability further.

How do I check which firmware version I currently have installed?

You can usually find that in the BIOS settings. Just boot into BIOS and look for the firmware version listed.

It might also be worth monitoring your CPU temperatures while under load. Tools like hwinfo can show you real-time temps, and you can set it to write a CSV directly to disk. This way, if the system crashes, you’ll have a log right up to that point.

I’ve seen the AMD USB bug cause strange issues like this too. Keep an eye on that—sometimes it’s a simple firmware update that can resolve those weird crashes.
