I've been having a frustrating issue with my setup while playing iRacing, especially during 24-hour endurance races. After about three hours of racing, my PC completely freezes, and I have to restart it to get things working again. The event viewer shows that Windows wasn't shut down properly. I ran a whocrashed analysis, which pointed to the GPU driver, but even after reinstalling it, the problem persists during long gaming sessions of over two hours.
I've also replaced my GPU and CPU to see if they were the cause, and I even reinstalled Windows, but the freezing continues. Running memtest and OOCT didn't show any errors either. On top of that, I've noticed that sometimes my PC doesn't boot at all – the fans don't light up, but if I press the power button to restart, it boots up.
Here are my specs:
- CPU: 9800X3D (previously 7600x)
- GPU: 5070 TI (previously 9070)
- RAM: 32GB Corsair DDR5 Vengeance CL32 6000 MHz
- SSD: 2 TB Crucial P310
- PSU: Cooler Master 750W Gold V3
- Motherboard: B650M Aorus Elite AX
- CPU Cooler: Thermaltake TH360 V2
I'm running out of options and really need help!

Have you tried switching your GPU settings in BIOS to PCIe x4 mode? That sometimes helps. Also, make sure your anti-cheat software is installed correctly, as issues there can create freezes during gaming session. There’s a guide if you need it!
You might want to try using Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to make sure all traces of the previous AMD drivers are gone. Often, issues arise when switching from AMD to NVIDIA if the drivers don’t get cleaned out properly.
Good point! Also, some motherboards have issues handling PCIe 5.0 GPUs. Manually setting it to PCIe 4.0 could help. You could also try reseating your GPU and see what happens. If the issue persists, undervolting your GPU by around -400mV might be worth a shot. If that helps, you may need to consider getting it replaced.

I hear you! I had to go through the same thing. It sounds tedious, but sometimes you really have to make sure everything is set right in BIOS!
