Help! My PC Keeps Shutting Down in BIOS and During Memtest86

I'm building my first PC since 2014 and I'm impressed by how much has changed. However, I'm facing a frustrating issue where my system keeps shutting down. Here's what I've noticed so far:

- The shutdowns mostly happen while I'm in the BIOS menu, usually within the first 10 minutes, but they always eventually occur.
- It happened only once while I was inside Windows 11.
- After the shutdown, only the RGB LEDs on both memory sticks stay lit up, resembling sleep mode, while the power switch LED goes dark.
- The system also shuts down while using the BIOS flash utility.
- During the first pass of Memtest86, it fails at the 'sleeping' test (Test 10), shutting down about 30 seconds before it finishes, which I've recorded twice.
- I've made sure that there's no overclocking on the CPU or memory.
- I swapped the memory with my partner's system, but experienced the same shutdowns during Memtest86.
- According to MSI's PSU calculator, I need 805 watts, and my PSU is rated at 1200W.

My motherboard is a few firmware versions behind, but I'm worried about flashing it if my system is already unstable. I'm looking for advice on what steps to take next or which component might be faulty. Thanks in advance for any help!

Have you tried different power cables or switching to another power outlet? Sometimes, a faulty power cable can mess things up. Also, test with only one RAM stick at a time in every slot to see if that's causing the shutdowns.

It sounds like your PSU might be causing the issue. I recommend trying out your partner's PSU and testing the RAM in individual slots, particularly slots 2 and 4. And definitely don't flash the BIOS while your system is unstable; that's a risky move!
