Hey everyone, I'm looking for some help with a PC I found in the trash about six years ago. I managed to get it to power on after a buddy of mine messed up the power button connection. I can't get past a black screen, though—no splash screen or BIOS access. I've checked everything! I've reset the CMOS battery, connected a different monitor, and even tried using the HDMI directly from the motherboard after disconnecting the GPU. I think I've hooked everything up right, but something's just not clicking. Here are the specs: MSI Z170A Gaming M5 motherboard, 16GB of G.SKILL DDR4 RAM, a 1TB WD Blue hard drive, a GeForce GTX 1050 Ti OC graphics card, and a Corsair RM 850x PSU. I'm at a loss and would appreciate any tips! Thanks!

You might want to check if the thermal paste on the CPU needs reapplying. Also, make sure your monitor is powered on and you've tried another HDMI cable just in case. Since you aren't sure about the processor, it could be that it’s not compatible with the motherboard. And importantly, do the fans spin up when you power it on? Can you hear any sounds from the power supply? Also, check if the PSU switch is on "I" for power—just double-checking!

The monitor is definitely on, and I've tried two HDMI cables that I know work. The fans and LEDs are working just fine, but I don’t hear anything from the PSU aside from the usual fan noise. It’s set to "I" for on, and sadly, there’s no voltage switch.

Have you tried using the video ports directly on the motherboard? If your motherboard has an integrated processor, that might work. It could save you from booting issues with the GPU.

Yeah, I did try using an HDMI directly from the motherboard to the monitor, but nothing changed. The black screen issue persists.
