Help! My SD Card Isn’t Recognized by My Computer

I'm new to photography and just calibrated my camera settings. I took some test photos that I want to upload to my computer for comparison. However, when I inserted my brand new SD card into my computer's built-in reader, it didn't show up anywhere—neither in disk management nor in file explorer. I've watched several videos on troubleshooting this issue, but most of them assume that the card was previously recognized, which isn't the case for me. I've tried various solutions like checking disk management and changing USB ports, but nothing has worked so far. My main question is: do I need to format the SD card to get it recognized, and if so, how can I back up the couple of images that are still on it? I'd really appreciate any help!

It's great that you're diving into photography! First, make sure the photos are still on the SD card by checking them in your camera again. If they appear there, it means the card works, but your computer just isn't recognizing it for some reason. Most new SD cards need to be formatted in the camera before use, but since you want to keep the images, hold off on formatting until you've backed them up. You might want to try using a different card reader if you have access to one, or even connecting your camera directly to the computer via USB to transfer the files.
