I've been having random issues with my SSD, specifically the D drive not showing up in File Explorer. It seems to happen for no apparent reason. Recently, when I leave my PC on for a while and come back, I sometimes see the BIOS screen that mentions no boot drive. A quick power cycle resolves the issue, and it boots up fine again.
Here's what I've tried so far:
- I checked Disk Management and found the drive listed as "unknown" and "Not Initialized."
- I attempted to initialize the disk using both MBR and GPT, but both attempts resulted in an error saying: "The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error."
- I tried running the disk check command `chkdsk d: /r /f`, but it says, "Cannot open volume for direct access."
- A simple reboot didn't help.
- I even switched the SSD into different M.2 ports, but that didn't work either.
I haven't yet tried troubleshooting it in BIOS mode, but I'm starting to run out of options. Any suggestions?

Hold up! It's a Samsung Pro 990 SSD you bought in October 2023? That’s pretty new—definitely shouldn’t be dying already. Maybe it’s more of a connection issue rather than the drive itself. Have you checked the power and data cables? Sometimes it’s just loose connections or something simple like that!
You might want to run CrystalDiskInfo to check the health of your SSD. It sounds like it could be aging or failing, which is not uncommon. You can get a read on its smart status to see what’s going on.
