Help! My SSD might be corrupted after a Steam update – what can I do?

Hey everyone, I've had a pretty rough day. Around 3 PM, I was updating the game Marvel Rivals on Steam as usual when the download got stuck at 95%. I tried to pause and resume the update, but things started lagging – first Steam, then Discord – and eventually, I got a black screen. After restarting my PC, I encountered a "Reboot and select proper boot device" error. I checked the BIOS and my SSD appears to be recognized just fine. I attempted several fixes: Windows startup repair and system restore using USB installation media, but both failed with errors. When trying to run commands from CMD, it looks like my SSD might be corrupted; I've gotten messages about corrupt file records and write protection issues. I even tried reinstalling Windows but couldn't create or find a new partition. Is there any way to fix my SSD? If it's beyond repair, can I retrieve my files? I'm really stressed out about this. Thanks for any help!

It sounds like your SSD might be failing and could have some bad sectors. Replacing it could be your best bet. It's likely not Steam that caused the issue; it just happened to be writing to the disk when it failed. Sorry you're going through this!

Is there any chance I can recover my files from the SSD before I replace it?
