Help! My SSD Won’t Wipe After a Failed Windows Installation

I'm struggling with a 512GB SSD in my laptop after a failed Windows 11 installation. It reached about 50% before restarting, and now I can't complete or remove the installation no matter how many times I try. I've also attempted to install Ubuntu, but that failed too. I'm currently using a 256GB NVMe drive running Linux Mint. No matter what I do, I can't wipe or format the SSD. Any suggestions?

You should try running SMART tests on your drive first. It sounds like there could be a hardware issue causing this problem.

Make sure to delete all partitions during the Windows installation by clicking on 'Advanced' in the partition manager. If you get an error about the disk failing, that could point to a hardware issue.

I recommend using a live boot ISO, like System Rescue, with GParted to format the drive. It’s a straightforward method to clear everything.

Have you tried using the dd command in Linux to wipe it with /dev/zero? If the drive is recognized, it might be the easiest solution to format.

Since you have Linux already, you can use it to wipe the SSD if there’s not a hardware fault. Tools like GParted can help with that. Just boot from a live USB and see if it can format the drive.
