I was attempting to set up Ubuntu on my laptop, and I used a USB drive that has a pin lock on it. The first time I tried to boot from the USB, it just returned to Windows. On the second attempt, it seemed like it was going to work, but then my screen went black and I ended up back in Windows. Now, I'm getting an error saying the drive can't be used and needs to be formatted. I tried formatting it, but another error appeared stating that the USB can't be written on. Did I ruin my $130 USB drive, or is there a way to fix it? I realize now it might not have been the best decision to use this USB for the installation.

Have you checked if the pin lock on your USB is in the correct position? Sometimes that can interfere with the writing process. If it’s locked, it might not allow any changes to the drive, making it appear as if it’s corrupted. Also, make sure that it's unlocked while you try to format or modify it.
I'm not super tech-savvy. Could you explain a bit more? Are you talking about the USB being properly plugged in or something specific with the lock?
