Help! My Windows Update Caused a Black Screen—What Should I Do?

Hey everyone! So, I recently updated my Windows 11 from version 22H2 because it reached end of life status. After the update, I encountered a blue screen of death, but after a restart, everything seemed fine. However, the update failed and now I'm getting a black screen repeatedly. Restarting doesn't seem to help anymore.

Here's what I've tried so far:
- Booted in recovery mode via HP BIOS, but no luck.
- Tried accessing task manager and using the Windows + R shortcut; neither worked.
- I attempted to switch to Linux since I had a flash drive with elementary OS, but that led to a black screen too.
- I also have a flash drive with Ubuntu, but that didn't work either. I even tried booting Ubuntu in safe graphics mode, but while I can type in the terminal, there's zero response.
- Lastly, I have a second hard drive with Pop!_OS, but waiting for that to boot resulted in a gray screen after 20 minutes.

I think I might have a backup of my PC from around March and I also have a USB with Ubuntu Server, but I'm honestly at a loss. Any advice on what to do next?

It sounds like a frustrating situation! I’d recommend restoring from your backup since that’s often the quickest way to get things back on track. If the backup isn’t showing up in the boot manager, try accessing your BIOS settings and see if you can enable it from there. Also, it might help to check if there are any settings related to boot priorities or hard drive settings that could be affecting the visibility of your backup.

Thanks for the advice! I’ll look into the BIOS settings and see what I can do.
