I recently cleaned a monitor at work that was previously used by a coworker, and I used isopropyl alcohol. Now there's a green line on the screen that wasn't there before! I didn't drop it or hit it, so I'm wondering if the alcohol or maybe the pressure from my hands while cleaning could have caused this issue. I already swapped out the HDMI cables, but that didn't help. It's a low-quality work monitor, so I'm stressing a bit about it since I just started my job last month. I'm curious if there's any way to fix this or what my options might be moving forward.

It sounds like the pressure from cleaning may have disturbed the screen's edge connector. Unfortunately, that can be tough to fix, and it might be time for a new monitor.
Honestly, just let your workplace know that the monitor has developed a line. These issues aren't uncommon, and monitors often need replacing. Most companies plan for that kind of thing, usually expecting to replace hardware every 3 to 5 years.
If you work from home, I would just buy a new screen. Otherwise, you should definitely tell your employer that the monitor isn't working right and request a replacement.
Just a heads-up, never use alcohol to clean a monitor. While it may not be responsible for the line, it can ruin the screen surface over time. Stick to a proper cleaner or just water with a microfiber cloth for future cleaning!
You might check out some sites like JScreenFix. I can't guarantee it'll work, but I've heard success stories from people who managed to fix stuck pixels using it!
thanks, I will try!
Thanks for the insight! I'm an intern and this is my first job, so I didn’t know this was something 'simple' to deal with. (yes, I work from home)
