Hey everyone! I'm diving into my first-ever PC build after dreaming about getting into gaming for years. I'm aiming for smooth 1080p gameplay and plan to run some modded older titles. I snagged an i5 10400 CPU along with a motherboard for just $40 on Facebook Marketplace, and I've also got a tested 3060 Ti since I didn't want to skimp there. I'm considering a Thermaltake Toughpower 600W PSU as well.
After some digging, I found out that my motherboard is a Dell Optiplex 3080, and it seems like getting it into a case is going to be a hassle, which feels a bit overwhelming for me. Before I start hunting down RAM, SSD, and locking in a case, I'm wondering if I should just scrap this motherboard and look for some budget-friendly LGA 1200 options instead? Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I'm trying to keep costs low, but it's not looking easy!

Congrats on starting your build! Honestly, I would recommend letting go of the Dell motherboard. The 3060 Ti is great for 1080p, and since you’ve got a solid CPU and PSU, grab a cheap B560 or B460 ATX motherboard. Don't forget to get 16GB of DDR4 RAM, and with that 600W PSU, you'll be all set for a great setup! Good luck!
It's a bummer that using the Dell motherboard likely won't work out since second-hand LGA 1200 boards are still running around $100. But hey, the $40 you spent on the CPU is a sweet deal, so that's a win while you gather the rest!
Yeah, I'm definitely viewing that as a win while I piece everything together!
So, here's the deal: Dell often uses unique motherboard sizes like BTX that don't fit standard cases. It's definitely a good idea to look for an ATX motherboard that will match up with any case you choose. That way, you're saving yourself a lot of trouble down the road!
Thanks for the tip, I appreciate it!

That sounds more straightforward! I was worried about all the adapters and everything to make it work with the Dell board, so this definitely helps.
