Help Needed: Issues Upgrading My Son’s GPU

My son built a PC back in June using a used GPU, and he got a new Vandossy Radeon RX 5700 XT Graphics Card for Christmas. We've spent a whole day trying to get it working, but we haven't had any luck. We're currently using HDMI with the CPU, but the new GPU isn't giving us any signal. The motherboard is an AMD B550-A Pro. The included power cable for the GPU was too short, so we tried using a PCIE cable from the motherboard box—that could be part of the issue. Although, he did download the AMD drivers as per the instructions. The odd part is that even with the GPU installed but not connected, one game looked better than before. Whenever we turn on the monitor, it shows 'no signal', and we've tried multiple monitors to rule that out. The GPU fans run, so we think it's getting enough power from a 650w PSU, which is above the 550w requirement. We even tried both GPU slots without any change. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Please provide the full specs of your hardware, including the PSU and CPU. I had a similar experience with a Chinese RX 5000 series GPU and received two that were dead on arrival. Just a heads up, you might be facing something similar.

I really hope that's not the case! We'll gather the full specs tomorrow and share them. Thanks for the heads up.

Can you clarify the issue you're facing? From what I understand, you swapped the old GPU for this new one, but it's not booting with the HDMI connected to the GPU. What do you see when you plug the monitor into the GPU directly? Any details on the short cable you mentioned would help. It sounds like a power supply issue since just changing GPUs can increase the power demand significantly.

I've linked some pictures here: https://imgur.com/a/RzcAGEx. When we connect the monitor to the GPU, it just shows 'no input', but the GPU fans are spinning, so the PSU should have enough power, I think.

Most AM4 processors don't have integrated graphics, which is why you’re still getting no signal with the HDMI plugged into the motherboard. If you wanted to get a display with the faulty GPU connected, you'd typically need to use a different graphics solution.

That's strange since it was working connected directly to the CPU for a while and then just stopped. Do you think we might have a bad GPU?

Just a heads up—don't ever use a SATA or Molex to connect your GPU. Always use cables that are labeled PCI-E from your power supply. If your PSU doesn't have those cables, you might need to buy a new power supply.

Can you tell from the pictures if that's what's going on? Here they are: https://imgur.com/a/RzcAGEx.

It sounds like you might be using the wrong cable to connect your GPU to the power supply. Make sure to use the dedicated PCI-E cable designed for the GPU to ensure it gets enough power. Can you show us the cables you're using?

I've posted pictures of the cables we're using here: https://imgur.com/a/RzcAGEx. The longer one we have doesn't have any yellow connectors.
