Help Needed: Recovering Lost Photos from a Faulty SD Card

I'm in a bit of a bind and could use some guidance. About two years ago, I lost my brother, and on my phone, I had over 3000 photos of our memories together. To save space, I transferred these photos to a 128GB SanDisk SD card. However, now that I've checked, the folder is completely empty, even though the SD card shows used space. I live in a remote area in the Himalayas with no access to professional data recovery services, so I need to try fixing this on my own. I haven't formatted the card or added anything new since I discovered this issue. Any tips, tools, or recovery methods I can try at home would be tremendously appreciated. Thank you!

I’m really sorry to hear about your loss. It might help to know what device you’re using to try to read the files. There are recovery tools like Recuva that could be useful, but I'd suggest waiting for more responses first since others might have better suggestions.

Have you tried checking if the files are hidden? If you’re using Windows, you can show hidden files by going to File Explorer, clicking 'View', then 'Options', and selecting 'Show hidden files, folders, and drives'. You should also run a virus scan on the SD card to rule out any malware issues.

You might want to reach out to the person who helped you transfer the files to see if they can explain what exactly happened. If they have experience, they might know how to recover the lost files. Additionally, try plugging the SD card into a computer using an adapter or connect your phone directly to the PC to see if you can access the photos that way.

First, determine if you can read the data from the card. A good method is to use a Linux system and the 'dd' command to create a full image of the card. This way, you can check the raw data for retrieval without risking any damage to the original card. Remember, always work with a copy of the image file.
