I've run into a huge problem with OneDrive after it was automatically set up on my new desktop when I bought it. I didn't even want it, but it's been saving all my files without my consent. I've tried to stop it, but it keeps overriding my choices. The situation has become critical since I decided not to renew my Microsoft Office subscription. Now, Outlook is telling me that I'm out of storage because OneDrive is 2500% over the limit! I didn't even know there was a storage limit!
I can't send emails now until I fix this issue. But here's the kicker: OneDrive won't let me delete any files because I'm already over the limit. The only solution it's suggesting is a monthly subscription of $16 for 1TB of storage that I never wanted in the first place! Has anyone else dealt with this problem? Is there a way to fix it without subscribing?

If I were you, I’d pay for an extra month and create a new user account on your laptop without a Microsoft account. Transfer everything over to that new account. It’s a hassle, but it might save your files!
I totally agree with that approach. I always set my computers up with a local account to avoid OneDrive messes!
As a pilot, I totally get your hesitation about cloud services. They seem fluffy and safe until you hit turbulence! My brother-in-law lost all his data on iCloud and only got a year of free service as an apology. When I set up my PC, the first thing I do is uninstall OneDrive. It’s just too risky!
Exactly! OneDrive is high on my list of annoyances. I paid a premium for storage but no way am I paying them to keep my stuff. Automatically enabling it is just terrible.
If you don’t have a subscription, OneDrive only gives you 5GB of free space. Being 2500% over the limit means you likely have around 125-150GB of data. You can check the actual usage by looking into OneDrive’s properties through File Explorer. If there’s enough space left on your local drive, you can right-click on OneDrive in File Explorer and choose ‘Always keep on this computer’ to save all that data locally. Once you've verified it's all on your PC, you can unlink your account from OneDrive in its settings. Good luck!
Thanks for the info!
Ugh, I wish I knew that before I ended up paying for a month and then lost everything after deleting my OneDrive files!
I did that! But I paid for a month, tried to move my stuff, and still ended up deleting everything!
