Hey everyone! I'm deep into 3D art creation using tools like ZBrush, Maya, and Unreal Engine 5, but I've hit a snag. I decided to upgrade my graphics card from a 3060 Ti to a 5080 for better performance and added an extra NVMe drive. Here's my setup: i7 11700K, 64GB of 3600MHz DDR4 RAM, 850W Corsair Gold PSU, and a Vision Z590D motherboard.
After fitting the new GPU and NVMe, I cleaned out some dust from the fans with wipes. Unfortunately, my machine wouldn't boot afterward. The fans turn on, but the PSU just clicks and stops. I unplugged and re-plugged all the cables, but nothing changed. I did a paper clip test on the PSU, and it seemed dead, so I bought a new 1000W Corsair PSU, which works on the test. However, the system still doesn't boot—only the RAM lights up.
I'm worried that some liquid from the wipes might have damaged the motherboard. Now I've got this new GPU and PSU, and I'm stuck. Should I just get a second-hand motherboard and keep my i7, or is it better to upgrade to a 14700K and get a new motherboard altogether? I'm trying to avoid buying new DDR4 RAM due to the inflated prices.

I faced a similar problem with my setup too. I switched to a 14600K with a Z790 motherboard while keeping my DDR4 RAM, and I found a noticeable performance boost for around $400. Just make sure to reseat everything and clear the CMOS before committing to a new build!
Testing the GPU at a parts store or with a friend is a solid move. From what you've described, it sounds like the motherboard is the main issue rather than the GPU itself. Maybe consider getting a 12900K for a nice performance upgrade without going all out on new components.
It might be a good idea to test the GPU in another computer to see if it's working. If you can't do that, going for a second-hand motherboard could be your best shot since it's the least expensive option at this point.
