I've noticed that my function keys (F1, F2, F3, F8) have been intercepted by Windows 11 after the latest updates. I'm not sure what's causing this issue, but it started happening after the March 21, 2026, update (KB5085516) and it seems like I can't uninstall this update. I'm running Windows 11 Pro, version 24H2, and I installed it on December 11, 2024. My OS build is 26100.8039. Google isn't providing helpful answers, and I've found conflicting information about the functionality of these keys. For example, F3 has been doing task switching like Alt + Tab, but I don't think that's its intended purpose. I'm looking for solutions to this problem because it's quite frustrating!

It sounds like this might not be due to an update. Have you checked if your "Fn" lock key is activated? Sometimes, toggling that can change the function of the keys. Also, if you're on a laptop, let us know what model it is! If it's a desktop, what keyboard are you using?
I've noticed similar issues! F4 opens File Explorer in my case, and F1/F2 seems to adjust brightness even on a desktop. Crazy, right? It's a hassle because I have to hit "Fn" + function keys for them to work. Check if there's any keyboard hotkey software that might be running and interfering with the default keyboard behavior.
I feel your pain! My F11 and F12 control sound now, and other shortcuts have stopped working entirely. It can be such a frustration when you rely on those keys for your workflow. Have you tried creating a system restore point before the updates? It might help revert to a state where everything worked as expected.

Oh, I just saw that you figured out your keyboard was in Mac mode! Classic mix-up!
