Hey everyone,
I recently discovered that someone remotely accessed my computer and made an unauthorized purchase from my eBay account. The situation is frustrating because my credit card company is holding me responsible for the charges, stating they can't confirm any fraudulent activity. I'm looking for any advice on how to get proof that someone accessed my computer or if anyone knows of any services that can help investigate this issue. I've tried gathering evidence, but I'm not sure I know what to look for.
Thanks in advance for your help!

It sounds like the thief may have accessed your account directly rather than hacking your PC. Make sure to contact eBay customer support since they can check the IP address used for the purchase which might help your case.
Unfortunately, any service that could help you investigate this will likely charge a hefty hourly fee, and the chances of finding useful evidence are slim unless you're dealing with a huge amount of money.
This kind of situation really depends on your local laws and the policies of your bank. It might be a good idea to consult with a lawyer and an IT specialist to understand your options better.
Before you do anything else, unplug the computer from the network to preserve any potential evidence. Don’t reformat it just yet! You'll need a pro who understands computer forensics to analyze it for clues. Good luck with this—it’s a tough situation.
Have you contacted eBay about this? They might not be the best with fraud cases, but it's still worth a shot. Definitely take action and report it everywhere you can.
Yeah, I reported it across the board but they haven't done anything.
It was about $3,800. Definitely not worth spending more to investigate, but it still stings!
