Help! Why Isn’t My Dell R7525 Detecting Disks for Windows Server Installation?

I'm trying to install Windows Server 2022 on my Dell R7525, but it's just not recognizing the 2 SSDs I have installed in the front bay. I tried the same thing with Rocky Linux and got the same results. What could be causing this issue? I've reset the BIOS and haven't set up any virtual disks. Any advice would be appreciated!

You might also need the driver for your RAID controller during the OS installation. It's usually necessary so the installer can see the disks. Plus, as others mentioned, setting up your RAID configuration ahead of time is a good step.

It sounds like you might need to create a RAID array or a virtual disk before the SSDs will be recognized by your OS. You can set up a single RAID 0 (striped) array, a RAID 1 (mirrored) array, or two separate RAID 0 arrays if you want them to be independent. That could help get them detected during installation.

Check if you have a PERC RAID card installed. You'll likely need to configure that first for your drives to be recognized by the system when you're installing anything.

If you have a PERC card but don’t want to do hardware RAID, you can set it to HBA mode, allowing the disks to pass through as non-RAID. Otherwise, you might have to create a virtual disk unless you want them to operate independently.

If there's a RAID controller, remember to initialize your disks as non-RAID disks. Once that's done, they should show up in your OS.
