I'm dealing with a really frustrating issue on a Windows client at our company. The user has been experiencing some major problems that are making it hard for him to work efficiently. Here's what's going on:
- First, there's a significant delay when he types. He'll type a letter, and it'll sometimes take a few seconds for it to show up on the screen.
- Then, SolidWorks, which is a CAD program, crashes out of the blue. This happens seemingly at random times.
- Also, Windows Explorer crashes randomly, adding to the chaos.
The machine itself is a Dell, equipped with 32 GB of RAM and an i9 processor, so it should definitely have enough power for the tasks he's handling.
I've already tried a bunch of troubleshooting steps:
- A complete Windows reinstall (using a bootable USB) fixed it for a while (about 4–6 weeks), but the problems returned.
- I attempted to troubleshoot Windows Update issues, but that didn't help.
- I ran SFC and DISM checks.
- Made sure Fast Startup is disabled.
- Updated all the drivers using the Dell Support Assistant.
- Excluded SolidWorks from the Sophos Endpoint's scans.
- Checked various SolidWorks settings with the manufacturer.
Has anyone else run into similar issues? I'm running out of ideas on how to fix this. The problems happen inconsistently, with some days being fine and others being a nightmare. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Have you checked the Event Logs? They can provide insights especially around the times the user faces these issues. It might help pinpoint the root cause.

Thanks for the suggestion! I'm new to IT and just starting to explore logs. Are they really helpful given that Windows supports a lot of hardware? Which logs should I focus on?
