Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a bind with my iPhone 14 Plus. I've been having issues with dropped calls, problems with my eSIM, and distorted audio. I've gone through quite the journey trying to get this sorted out. Here's my timeline:
1. Chat support led me to the Genius Bar.
2. The Genius Bar suggested I get an eSIM reset from my carrier and, if that didn't fix things, to call Apple for an express replacement.
3. My carrier reset the eSIM and checked for issues.
4. After a phone call, a rep scheduled me for a Genius Bar appointment to get a replacement, even though I mentioned I should handle this over the phone.
5. Back at the Genius Bar, I was told I shouldn't have been sent there and they arranged for a higher-level technician to call me.
6. In a follow-up call, despite running all the tests again, they still couldn't identify the issue but set up an express replacement.
Now, here's the kicker: I'm leaving for a volunteer trip on July 10th, so timing is crucial. We started this process on July 2nd and I was told the replacement would be shipped soon. However, I just found out that the product won't be available until July 8th and shipping could take another 3-5 days. Initially, they told me I couldn't cancel it, and I'd be billed for a second device! After some back and forth, they're reviewing my request to cancel, but I need this resolved soon. I don't have the budget to buy a temporary phone, and I'm worried about being without a working phone entirely during my trip, even though I can use Wi-Fi for messaging apps.
I feel really misled throughout this whole process. Any advice on how to handle this situation? I'm worried about being charged for a phone I can't use and missing out on my trip due to this issue.

Honestly, it sounds like a tricky situation, and doing a replacement this close to your trip isn't ideal. If you can, escalate your concerns to a supervisor at Apple. Explain your timeline and the hold on your card. They might have more flexibility to help.
Have you considered checking local stores or online for a second-hand phone? Sometimes you can find a decent deal, and it could be a lifesaver during your trip if your replacement gets delayed further.
I’ve thought about it, but I really don't have the funds for even a cheap used phone right now. My main concern is getting my own phone fixed!
Thanks for the advice! I’ll definitely try to escalate it, but it’s been so frustrating to get clear answers. I just want my phone sorted before I leave!
