Help with My TUF B550-Plus: Storage Issues and M.2 Heatsink Questions

I've been using my TUF Gaming B550-Plus motherboard for about four years now, and I've hit a couple of snags. First off, I have an SSD and a hard drive set up; the SSD is meant for running multiple virtual machines since it's quicker, while the hard drive serves my gaming needs. However, I've started running out of space on the SSD after using it for games as well. What's the best way to transfer files from my C: drive to the hard drive?

Secondly, I'm considering upgrading by adding a new M.2 SSD, but I noticed that the cover (or heatsink, I'm not sure which term to use here) for the M.2 slot is missing. Do I really need that cover for the SSD?

For your first problem, you can use software like Clonezilla or Macrium Reflect to clone your old hard drive data to the new SSD if that's what you opt for, but it sounds like you'd actually prefer to just move files around. In that case, simply drag and drop your games from the SSD to the hard drive. It'll free up space without having to clone anything.

Regarding the second problem, the heatsink is not strictly necessary to use the SSD, but it does help with heat management. You might want to consider getting a new one or an SSD that comes with a heatsink pre-installed to keep things cool.

For moving files from your SSD to the hard drive, you're right; cloning is generally for copying. You should move your game files directly instead; just select them and transfer them over to the hard drive.

As for the heatsink situation, many SSDs come equipped with one, but it isn't a requirement for usage. It just helps lower temperatures, which can potentially improve performance and longevity.

So if the heatsink isn't necessary, I can just run my new SSD without it? That's kinda good to know!

Yeah, totally! Just keep an eye on the temperature if you're planning to do intense tasks. Running without it isn't a dealbreaker!
