I recently got an old Acer Aspire V5 laptop from 2013, which used to belong to my grandpa. Unfortunately, I didn't have the original charger, but I used a Toshiba charger that matched in power and voltage. I also bought an adapter to fit the barrel plug to my laptop, and while it seems to power on, the display stays completely black. The battery seems dead, as the laptop turns off immediately when I remove the power.
I've attempted to troubleshoot by replacing the RAM, the CMOS battery, and even tried connecting it to an external monitor, but nothing works. Any insights on what else I could try?

Just to clarify, if the external monitor is detected but still shows nothing, that’s a sign there might be a deeper issue. Maybe check the laptop’s internal graphics card or connections inside if you're comfortable doing that. Another possibility could be a RAM issue, so trying different RAM slots could help. Good luck!
It's tricky when the display stays black. When booting, did you notice any beeps or noises? If there are no visuals at all, it might not be a driver issue since you'd usually see a low-resolution startup screen. It's worth checking if the fans spin up and then stop; that might indicate something like a GPU failure. You could try opening it up to check for any obvious hardware problems.
