Help with RTX 5080 Freezing Issues on Desktop

Hey folks, I recently upgraded my GPU and could use some advice. About 10 days ago, I bought a Zotac RTX 5080 Amp Extreme Infinity, and today I encountered a problem for the first time while just using my desktop—not gaming. My mouse suddenly froze, and I couldn't click on anything for a few seconds. Then, my screen went black for a moment before coming back, and it seemed like the NVIDIA driver restarted. I checked the Event Viewer and found multiple errors related to the NVLDDMKM driver, including Event ID 14 and Event ID 153, all linked to GPU ID 100. Before this RTX 5080, I was using an AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX with no issues, and I even did a fresh Windows installation before setting up the new GPU. This problem happened only on the desktop, not during gaming.

Could this be caused by driver issues, a Windows 11/NVIDIA TDR problem, or something related to hardware acceleration, BIOS, or PCIe timing? Any help or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated! Here are my system specs:
- OS: Windows 11 Home 64-bit
- Motherboard: MSI MPG X870E Carbon
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9700X
- GPU: Zotac Gaming GeForce RTX 5080 Amp Extreme Infinity, 16GB GDDR7
- RAM: G.Skill Trident Z 32GB (2x16GB) 6000MHz CL30
- Storage: Samsung 970 EVO NVMe M.2 1TB, WD Black SN850X NVMe M.2 1TB, WD Black SN850X NVMe M.2 2TB
- Monitor: Alienware AW3423DWF 34" QD-OLED, 165Hz
- PSU: Seasonic Vertex PX-1000, 1000W, 80+ Platinum

I’d suggest starting with the drivers. Boot into safe mode, use Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to remove the old ones, then restart in normal mode and install the latest drivers directly from NVIDIA’s website for your card. Since the driver crashed and reset itself, it seems more likely this is a driver issue rather than a hardware problem. If the issue persists after that, we can dive deeper into other causes!

Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll try that and see if it helps. I did a fresh install of Windows and thought I had the latest drivers, but I’ll remove them and reinstall to be sure.
