Hi everyone! I'm currently working at a multinational company in the banking and fintech sector, and I've been in my first job as a developer for about 1.5 years now. I'm really curious about how fellow developers are planning to get involved in the current AI boom. Although I'm following the AI developments closely, I feel like I have limited knowledge, especially in areas like training models and machine learning. Do you think I should transition into a full ML role, or should I focus on improving my skills in integrating and using LLMs and other AI tools?

There are many paths in AI. You can specialize in using AI tools or in creating them. It really depends on your interests! If you enjoy working directly with consumers and applying AI to existing processes, that's one route. If you're more into the research and development side, you might want to dive deeper into AI creation.

It's important to realize that most of the people creating and designing AI models have advanced degrees and considerable experience. The tech industry is always evolving, and learning about new tools, including AI, is part of the job. As a developer, you can use AI to enhance your productivity, but you still need a solid understanding of your code and project requirements.

Be cautious about what’s labeled as AI. Not everything marketed as AI is actually using advanced technology. Sometimes, it's just simple automation. Focus on what you're passionate about, whether integrating AI solutions or solving problems in your current projects.

I'm taking a straightforward approach: if AI can help solve specific customer issues, I'll use it. Otherwise, I won't force it into situations where it's not helpful. Some people are eager to push AI into everything they do, but I find it can just complicate things.

Using AI doesn’t mean you’re part of the boom; it's more about becoming proficient in it. If you want to secure a future job in this evolving field, the time to enhance your skills is now. Don't let LLMs replace your learning; use them as a tool to boost your capabilities and build robust knowledge.
