My mom and brother accidentally bricked her computer by using chargers with different power outputs, which is quite a mess! I removed her SSDs and connected them to my computer using a USB adapter to check if I could access the files. They show up, but I've noticed they list zero storage space. Am I doing something wrong, or are the drives damaged?

You might want to try some free data recovery software like Testdisk. Just a heads up, if the data is super important and that doesn't work, professional recovery services could charge a hefty fee, potentially in the thousands! But definitely give Testdisk a shot first!
Check out what you've got in Disk Management. Sometimes, Windows won’t automatically mount the drive in an external enclosure. Right-click on it there and see if ‘Mount Drive’ is an option when you select it.
Could it be encrypted with BitLocker? Have your mom log into her Microsoft account and look for recovery keys. She can find them here: https://account.microsoft.com/devices/recoverykey
Yeah, I'm not looking to spend thousands! I'll check out Testdisk. Appreciate the suggestion!
