Hey everyone! I'm currently using Azure Recovery Services Vault (RSV) with Geo-Redundant Storage (GRS) to safeguard my backup data. I'm in a bit of a bind and need some clarity on what to do if the primary region for my RSV goes dark. Here's the situation:
1. My backup data is stored in a secondary region, but I can't access it since it's not visible to me.
2. Since RSV is a zonal service, I lose access to it completely during a regional outage.
3. Without RSV, I'm left without an orchestrator or identity access to retrieve my abstracted backup data.
Am I just stuck waiting for Microsoft to recover the primary region, which could take a long time? I'm also curious about the purpose of GRS in this scenario when I can't directly get to my data. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

So, typically you can only restore from the secondary region if Microsoft officially confirms that the primary region is down. However, you can look into enabling cross-region restore to avoid some of these access issues. Here’s a link for more info: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/backup/back...

Thanks for the link! But I’m not sure this fully helps my situation since CRR only works if RSV is up. I saw something about Azure declaring a disaster—does that mean they'll recreate my RSV in the secondary region using some kind of global metadata?
