How can I add a profile picture to my SMTP server?

Hey folks, I'm new to this and I hope it's okay to ask a question here! I've successfully set up an SMTP server using Postfix and I've got SPF, DKIM, and DMARC configured properly. My emails are getting delivered well, and I can send out over 150 nicely formatted HTML emails daily without issues. However, I've hit a bit of a snag. I'm really keen on setting up a profile picture or avatar for my emails. I tried signing up for Gravatar, but it doesn't seem to work with major clients like Gmail, Yahoo, or Outlook. I'd really love to have a custom avatar instead of just displaying the first letter of my email. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

What you're looking for is likely a "BIMI" record. This allows businesses to display their logos in emails. You can find more about it here: https://support.google.com/a/answer/10911321?hl=en. Just a heads-up though, BIMI usually requires you to have a trademarked logo, which might be a bit of a hassle if you're just trying to use any random pic.

I saw that, but do I really need to trademark my logo just for a simple avatar? I was hoping for something more casual.

If you're serious about adding an image, you'll need a BIMI certificate, which can run you about $1200 a year. It's a pricey investment, but it could be worth it if you want your logo to show up.

There's no standard method to display a profile picture in SMTP emails. BIMI is the closest option, but it's really designed for business logos rather than personal images. If you're just looking for some visual flair, you might have to settle for just the initial of your email.
