How Can I Better Understand the Basics of Advanced Cloud Systems?

I'm a cloud administrator working primarily with Azure and AWS. Sometimes I feel like I'm missing the bigger picture when it comes to the underlying systems I deal with. For instance, I'm familiar with concepts like DNS and authentication via Active Directory, but I struggle to see how these elements interact within the larger architecture. Recently, I migrated some SFTP solutions from on-premise to cloud services. I can set up the necessary accounts and manage users, but I find the networking, authentication processes, and other background operations during file transfers and storage confusing. It seems like some of my colleagues have a clearer grasp on these processes. Am I just being overly hard on myself?

I can totally relate! As someone from the GenX era of tech, I learned by breaking things and figuring out how to fix them. If you wanna really understand these complex systems, invest some time into building your own lab environment. Ask your employer if they can help with training or resources. A hands-on approach is the best way to deepen your skills.
