I recently started up my old laptop from a few years back, and it's asking for a BitLocker recovery key. Since I never set up BitLocker, I don't have the key and I'm prepared to lose all my data. The issue is that I'm stuck with a cloud install and the laptop won't connect to the internet, even when I plug in an Ethernet cable. Is there any way around this situation?

Usually, BitLocker needs the recovery key to be saved on your Microsoft account or somewhere else. So, it’s worth checking there. If you can’t retrieve it, then your best bet is to format the drive, use a Windows installation USB, and install from scratch.
You can create a bootable USB with the Microsoft installer using another computer. Just follow the instructions in the TechSupport Wiki for that. Remember, you’ll need to delete all partitions on the laptop's disk during the installation process, but be aware that creating that install key will wipe anything on the USB too!
If you’re out of options, it’s time to wipe the system using a bootable installation media. Don’t stress about the cloud installation anymore—just go ahead and reset it!
Just a heads up, if you logged into your Microsoft account when you first set up Windows, it likely enabled BitLocker automatically and saved the key there. Check your account or any other accounts that may have been used on this laptop.
