How can I check if my Linux distro will work with my Acer Aspire 3?

I've been thinking about switching to Linux for weeks, but I just realized I should check if the distro I want to use is compatible with my hardware. I was looking on the Ubuntu website and saw a list of supported devices, but I couldn't find my laptop brand, Acer, on there. I decided to try Cinnamon Mint instead, but I couldn't find a list of compatible hardware for that either. How can I be sure there won't be any compatibility issues?

It's really about your laptop's specs rather than finding it on a compatibility list. As long as your Acer can support a 64-bit OS, both Ubuntu and Linux Mint should run fine. To create a live USB, you can use tools like Balena Etcher or Rufus. After that, restart and access the boot menu, usually by pressing F12 when powering on, to see how it works. If it doesn’t work out, just restart and remove the USB to get back to Windows.

Unless your laptop has some unique quirks, it should work without issues.

Definitely try running a live USB to see what works. It gives you a chance to test everything out without any risk.

The best way to find out is to create a live USB of the distro and boot it up. Most Linux distros let you run a live version from the USB, so you can test your hardware first. It's a good way to check if key components like your GPU, WiFi, and sound work properly without making any permanent changes to your computer. Just shut down and remove the USB to go back to your usual setup if things aren’t working out.
