How Can I Connect an Old 2003 50-Pin DVD Burner to a Modern Motherboard?

I've got an old beige DVD drive from 2003 with a 50-pin data cable, and I'm trying to figure out how to connect it to my new motherboard. I've looked for converter boards but can only find SATA to 50-pin options, not the other way around. Any suggestions on how to make this work?

Getting an adapter is key here. IDE/PATA drives aren't readily available in modern setups, but you can try to find a USB to IDE adapter. That should bridge the gap for you!

I need an adapter, but the standard IDE is too small for what I have. I have an IDE to SATA adapter but it just doesn’t work.

What's the exact model of your drive? Knowing that could help others give more specific advice.

It's a 2003 Toshiba SD-M1712 internal DVD burner.

Could this possibly be a SCSI drive? Just checking since it looks a bit different from regular IDE drives.

I’m pretty new to building PCs, so I’m not sure. It might be SCSI, but it doesn’t look like it. Haha.

Have you thought about using a PCI Express IDE controller? That might be a good way to get your old drive connected. Just make sure your motherboard has the right slot.

Yeah, I don’t think that's the solution I need, unfortunately.
