I'm looking for some advice on handling my son's DVD collection. He has autism and loves movies, so to make car rides easier, we bought him a portable DVD player. Unfortunately, he tends to mess up the DVDs, which leads to them freezing, and I find it hard to locate decent replacements at thrift stores. I've managed to back up his movies on my PC, but I'm stuck trying to figure out how to convert these files into a format that can be saved onto a USB. His player only supports AVI, MPEG234, and VOB, definitely not MP4. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Honestly, if you want an easier solution, why not get a tablet? You could just download the movies directly without the hassle of ripping DVDs. Plus, it’s way more convenient for travel!
Don’t underestimate how easy it is to convert media nowadays! It’s really not complicated and worth doing if you already have the DVDs.
Just a heads up, if you use VLC, make sure the player can handle the formats you're converting to. It works fine on laptops, but for other players, you might encounter audio issues. Try converting short clips in different formats to see what works best on your device.
You should definitely check out HandBrake. It’s a solid program for ripping DVDs and can help you convert to the formats your player supports.
If you haven't already, download VLC Media Player! Pop the DVD into your PC, start VLC, and go to File > Convert. Choose your output format, and you’re good to go!

I get where you're coming from, but ripping DVDs gives you a better quality for specific shows, especially series. I have software that makes it super easy to convert DVDs into files. Plus, I like having a physical collection to work with.
