How can I disable power to USB ports when my PC is off in Windows 11?

I've been trying to find a way to turn off power to my USB ports when my PC is shut down, but nothing I've done has worked. I don't use my computer very often, but the bright LED on my plugged-in speaker stays on all the time, which is super annoying. Is there a way to fix this in Windows 11?

To control the USB power when your PC is off, you'll need to access your BIOS settings. It's not something that's managed through Windows itself. Look for the USB power settings under Power or Advanced Options in your BIOS. The terms can vary, but you might find something like 'ErP' or 'USB Power' settings that control whether USB ports remain powered when the PC is off.

Just a heads up, it’s definitely a BIOS setting at play here. Make sure to check those settings directly! Windows doesn’t control the power to USB ports when the system is completely off.

I faced the same issue and managed to solve it by enabling the ErP setting in the BIOS. Here’s how:

1. Restart your computer and enter the BIOS (usually by pressing F2, Delete, or F10 during startup).
2. Find sections like Power or Advanced Options.
3. Look for 'ErP Ready' or other USB power settings and adjust them as needed. This setting typically helps keep USB ports off when you shut down your PC.

Windows 10 and 11 often have a fast startup feature that keeps some power to the USB ports even when shut down. You can disable this by going to Settings > System > Power & sleep > Additional power settings. Then choose what the power buttons do and turn off fast startup. This might help with the USB issue!
