I'm working in a medium to large organization that struggles with accurately tracking its IT assets. While we have custom asset labels for our hardware, there's no documentation or system in place to track them, leaving it pretty chaotic. The labels have numerical IDs and barcodes, but those aren't utilized at all. I mean, they're just stickers that can easily peel off, especially in warmer environments!
I've started incorporating the asset IDs into my infrastructure hostnames, but I'm realizing that the quality of those stickers isn't good enough. I need labels that will stay intact. Ideally, I want to provide consistent labels to our teams globally, so it would be great if they could order from a vendor directly instead of me having to ship them out. I've thought about using tamper-proof labels, but I'm not sure if that's really the way to go.
I document things in NetBox now, moving away from manual Excel sheets, and I'm also considering labels with barcodes for easy tracking in NetBox. Any advice from those experienced in asset management would be hugely appreciated!

Check out Snipe-IT! It's a free asset management tool and it works great for tracking assets. You can host it without any cost, and it integrates nicely with your existing system.

Thank you! I hadn’t come across this yet. It looks really interesting.
