How Can I Encrypt Windows 11 Home Laptops for My Company?

Hey folks! I'm in a bit of a bind and could really use your collective wisdom. My company decided to go with laptops running Windows 11 Home edition, which, despite my advice against it, is now causing us problems. We're currently trying to obtain an ISO that mandates device encryption. However, I've been informed that it doesn't specifically require BitLocker, just that the devices need to be encrypted somehow.

Here's the catch: we don't use Azure, so each laptop runs on local user accounts. I've noticed that the Home edition only allows for encryption if users are signed in with a Microsoft account. What options do I have for encrypting these laptops with the current setup? Any advice would be appreciated!

By using Home edition in a business setting, you're technically breaching the EULA for Windows. Upgrading to Pro seems like the only way to keep everything compliant and functional!

Honestly, if they made you get Home edition laptops, I would have reconsidered my job. You really lack the support features you’d need when managing devices in a business. It just seems like a bad setup from the start!

Yeah, you definitely need to buy something. Upgrading to Pro would be the easiest route without having to mess with third-party encryption software. Just bite the bullet and make the upgrade!

Another angle to consider is that you can't really image with Home edition, which complicates things. You can't use an ISO to install where you might think if things don't come pre-installed. Upgrading is really your best bet.

Does that mean I'm stuck with what's installed out of the box? That's not great!

If you've got those Home edition laptops, the simplest solution would be upgrading each of them to Windows 11 Pro. It’s worth it for the encryption features alone, especially in a business environment. Honestly, it's frustrating that a company would even go for Home editions for work purposes!

Totally feel you on that one! We go for Home edition laptops mainly for engineers because enterprise models can be sky-high in price just for better specs. But we always do an upgrade to Pro immediately afterward.

Same here! The price gap between the Home and Pro versions is absurd for higher-spec needs.
