I'm using a throwaway account because I'm dealing with a serious issue. I recently broke up with an abusive ex and immediately went no contact, moving away without telling him my new location. A few months back, I bought some AirPod Pros through a marketplace, but my ex set them up on his iPhone before I got them, claiming he was just curious.
Now, I'm worried he might have linked the AirPods to his Find My account. Is that possible? How can I check this and remove him from any tracking? I previously turned off Find My for the AirPods and rebooted them, but I'm unsure if that's enough. This is really stressing me out since he stalked me before, just showing up at places I was without me telling him. I'd appreciate any advice! Thanks in advance!

If you’re using an iPad, you can go into Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > Share My Location, and see if anyone else has access to your location that shouldn’t. Just keep your personal safety in mind while you’re checking things out.
Just to be safe, check if he ever accessed your Apple account. If there's any doubt, change your password immediately. Security first! Also, get familiar with how to check your Find My app by following these steps: Open the Find My app on your phone, tap on the Devices tab, and see if your AirPods are listed. If they're there, sign them out and back in. It's good to know they're not hooked up to two accounts since that could cause issues.
You should also think about the possibility that he might have installed tracking software on your phone. If you feel uneasy about that, consider resetting your device to factory settings. Also, check your location services under settings to see which apps have access to your location. Turn off any you don’t recognize or trust.
Remember to check not just your AirPods but also if he might have placed an AirTag somewhere in your belongings. Look under the devices and items in the Find My app for any unfamiliar items. If you find something suspicious, don't hesitate to report it to the police.
If your AirPods show up in your Find My app, you’re in the clear! They can only be linked to one Apple account at a time. As long as they are connected to your account, he can’t track them. Just make sure you keep an eye on your Find My app to confirm they're there.
Thank you! Really reassuring to hear.
