I've run into a major issue with my old laptop. Years ago, I uninstalled something important and now I can't log in at all. I've tried every password I remember, but none of them work. Interestingly, I can still log into my new laptop with the same account, but it's not recognized on the old one. Whenever I click 'forgot my password', I end up on a blue screen stating that the account doesn't exist on that device. Both laptops are connected to Wi-Fi, so I'm wondering if there's a way to connect the two and perform a factory reset on the old one or perhaps reinstall Windows. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Unfortunately, you can't factory reset one laptop using another. The factory reset option only affects the device it's run on, and the built-in reset feature can be unreliable. Your best bet is to do a clean install of Windows instead.
If you're okay with losing everything on your old laptop, just format it and install the OS from scratch. Skip trying to fix the old account if it’s causing too many issues!
Have you tried doing a BIOS factory reset? You might find that option by searching your laptop’s specs online. It could help restore factory settings linked to your Microsoft account.
I would suggest checking if you can access the Administrator account. Sometimes it doesn’t have a password, especially if it's enabled by default. If that works, you can reset your main account's password from there.
If the laptop was logged in with a Microsoft account, you can reset the password from another device by visiting the Microsoft account recovery page. After resetting, try logging in again!
