How can I fake my location on Google Maps for a surprise visit?

I'm planning a cross-country trip to surprise my long-distance boyfriend. We share our locations on Google Maps for safety, but I want to know if there's a way to temporarily fake my location so he won't see that I'm at the airport. I have an old phone that can still connect to Wi-Fi; could this help me hide my location? I'm aware of the risks of using spoofing apps due to Google's terms of service, so I'd prefer not to go that route. Any advice would be appreciated!

You could turn off your location sharing and just tell him you're having issues with it. Say Google support is working on it. Another tactic is to just claim you forgot to charge your phone and want to save battery until you get to a charger.

Exactly! Or just turn off your location and keep it quiet. No need to over-explain.

Be careful, because if you fake your location, he might start to question if you've done it before. It could create trust issues later on.
